April 2005
A general tidy-up of the site, updating due to the development of the project beyond the initial Guiding context. Incorrect and dead links removed.

An article about these pages was included in Girlguiding Somerset North’s Snipit magazine. Thanks to those who have visited as a result.
The real mental health problem is a society that discriminates against people with mental health problems. Many people with mental health problems say that the misunderstanding, prejudice and isolation they experience is far worse than their symptoms. Shift is a new, five year initiative in England that has been created to tackle this issue. With 1 in 4 people experiencing some form of mental health problem in any one year, Shift is something we all need to get involved with.
Another recent web launch is the DIPEx site on depression. DIPEx offers a range of text, audio and video information about various physical and mental health problems. The key focus is on relieving the confusion and fear of finding you have an illness by offering a wider variety of personal experiences of health and illness.

The campaign web site seems to have closed, and the link now points to the NHS ‘National Institute for Mental Health in England’ (NIMHE) Anti Stigma and Discrimination Programme. This is disappointing as it was an excellent resource, but some of the information remains available on the NIMHE site, and I have been told that a new project is to be launched in September.
I have sought permission to provide a copy of the Mind Out campaign’s Change Your Mindset youth action pack on this web site, and you can find it on the Activities page.
Links to the GirlguidingUK Safe From Harm policy have been provided on the page about Confidentiality.
June 2004
