What is a mental illness?

A mental illness can affect the way we think, feel or behave, and will often interfere with our ability to lead a normal life. Just as someone who has a broken leg can't run, a person with a mental health condition may have trouble with their work and social life.

There is one important fact to remember when thinking about mental health:

1 in 4 people will experience some sort of serious mental health condition

Think about it - think about all of the people that you know, then think that a quarter of them have, will have or have had some form of serious mental health condition. With numbers like these, just think, it could happen to anyone you know.

It could be you
